My quick answer to this question:
The reason guys tend to use lines is as defense mechanism. Sure, most of the time they don’t work (like 90% of the time they annoy the girl)… But the guy gets to protect his heart from hurt. Contrary to popular belief, guys have feelings too. Like the whole “macho” thing some guys do, is just a mask to protect his feelings.
Lines are similar. Like, if I approach a woman, and “be myself”, if she says no, she rejects ME, and I feel hurt by it. She rejected me. If I use some corny line, I get to rationalize it away as “oh, the line failed”. I get to protect my heart from hurt.
Now… On this site, I teach guys to not use lines long-term… Only use “conversation pick up lines” in order to get comfortable approaching and meeting women, but your eventual goal is to get comfortable being yourself.

They use lines that they’ve heard on us that we’ve heard many times before and they still expect them to work?

it cracks me up when guys use them so there ok, and they use them cuz they trying to spit game and im not a guy but today in class we were talking about pick up lines for example ”i love u like a fat kid loves cake” lol

I don’t really see people use pick up lines…
They just go up and start talking or they are already friends and they become gf/bfs after that.
